COOKING FOR FEWER

Serves: 4
Cook Time: 30-35 minutes

INGREDIENTS

  • • 2–3 apples, sliced or diced
  • ½ cup sugar
  • ½ cup all-purpose flour
  • 1 egg, beaten (use approximately half)
  • 6 tablespoons butter, melted
  • 1 tablespoon sugar
  • 1 teaspoon cinnamon
  • Optional: ¼–½ cup chopped nuts

INSTRUCTIONS

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F.
  2. Place apples in a lightly greased 6-inch baking dish or similarly sized oven-safe dish.
  3. Mix 1 tablespoon sugar and cinnamon and sprinkle over apples.
  4. Combine ½ cup sugar, flour, approximately half the beaten egg, and melted butter. Add nuts if desired.
  5. Spread over the apples.
  6. Bake approximately 30–35 minutes, checking for a golden topping and tender apples.
  7. This smaller version is a suggested adaptation of your original recipe, not yet kitchen-tested. A whole egg would be convenient but may change the topping’s texture.

Anna’s Tip 💛

Serve with vanilla ice cream or homemade whipped cream!

  1. I peeled, sliced, and froze my excess apples in September, do you think they would work in this recipe?

Oh goodness! I have a mess of apple slices, frozen. I was saving them for an upside down caramelized apple cake. Degree of difficulty MUCH greater than this preparation. This one looks SUPER easy- how many people would it serve? Looks like 6-8 maybe?

Its more of a cakey than a crumble – but so good!

  6. This looks so delicious. I have apples I bought at the orchard, and you always buy too many. This is perfect to use some of the Mac apples…That’s what my husband likes. He just had knee replacement surgery 2 weeks ago, so I make him all his favs since we aren’t going out to dinner for a while. Thanks for posting…

Aww I hope you like it! Hope he recovers soon!

  7. What apples did you use? With the little amount of sugar with cinnamon I’d be afraid it would be too tart.

Since I usually use whatever apples I have around or what’s on sale, I usually do grab more crisp sweeter apples for eating so in this recipe, they were just perfect with sweetness

  8. Can you use aregular deep pie plate?

  9. Hi! This looks amazing! Have you ever multiplied the recipe for a crowd? Do you think doubling, tripling, etc would be okay? Thanks!

I have not but I’m sure it would be fine! You could do it in a 9×13 and maybe triple?

Hi, your measurements of cups are different to Europe, is one cup 100grams? Could you give me some more details please???
    Thankyou

This is the info that I found: One cup of all-purpose flour equals about 120 to 125 grams in US and UK standard measurements, or roughly 130 to 132 grams for a metric cup (250 ml).

With this recipe in particular I think it is ok if not super precise

  11. Could I use a gluten free 1:1 flour? Thank you!
